ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (January 8, 2024) – The Howard Bend Levee District is pleased to announce the completion of the long-awaited pump station located within the Creve Coeur Airport Subdistrict.
The total cost of construction for the pump station is $8,240,000. It is located on the levee adjacent to the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District Missouri River wastewater treatment plant. It contains two 250 cubic feet per second electric pumps which will facilitate drainage of a major portion of the levee district benefiting approximately 1,500 acres of property. The protected area includes Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park, the MSD wastewater treatment plant, Creve Coeur Airport, Sportport International, and heavily travel roadways such as Missouri Route 141, Marine Avenue, Creve Coeur Mill Road, River Valley Drive in addition to the surrounding undeveloped property.
The pumps will prevent internal flooding of this area during extreme rainfalls. Internal flooding has occurred in the past when heavy rains coincide with periods of high water on the Missouri River prohibiting normal drainage of the rainfall into the river.
